Review on 'The Sense of an Ending'

This blog is in response to the worksheet on 'The Sense of an Ending'. You can find the worksheet on 'The Sense of an Ending' here.

Here I try to discuss something about novel 'The Sense of an Ending ' by Julian Barnes. Here if we think about title then it is something which is ending and authors talk about it . This can be first interpretation. We any reader come across this novel they know about one main character Tony who use to think that in his old age he is quite happy and living alone. He got divorce from his wife and has one daughter who has contact with both mother and father. He is happy with solitude of his life but at the end of this novel his this sense is going to end that he done good karmas and so he is happy in his old age and so this novel is about end of Tony's sense and so it is entitled as 'The Sense of Ending'. Here we can have reference of 'Hindu Karmic Philosophy', too.

One more phase which is mostly use in this novel is 'Blood Money'. The whole story is narrated by Tony and some other narratives are also came in the story. Veronica is ex-girlfriend of Tony but after break-up she movies on with Tony's another friend and so after knowing about this Tony wrote a later to that friend and that friend committed suicide and so Veronica lives alone and brought up her mother and her boyfriend's child and when Tony knows about it he realizes his mistake and so here story ends but it leaves something for us to think about suicide, love , jealousy and truth of life.

Thank you.

Review on 'The Birthday Party'

This blog is in response to the worksheet on 'The Birthday Party'. You can find the worksheet on 'The Birthday Party' here.

Here I am trying to give some point about play ,'The Birthday Party', written by Harold Pinter. Very firstly we can say then when comedy of menace emerges Pinter came in light because of his plays because he use to write plays which are on bases of comedy of menace.
This play is written in three acts and it is so simple to understand its structure but what happens in the play is totally out of structure. There is a person who is living as a paying guest at a couple's home and that land lady use to cook very bitter food for that person. He use to complaining but then even she use to cook for him.  That couple hasn't any child so we can feel that they love him as their child but at some moment this thought seems very odd to viewers, too. The play is so much meaningless and full of nothingness.
Silences and pauses are also their own meaning in this play which can leads viewer in particular   direction. Movie is also very well presented and near to text. It also makes feel horror to viewers and it can frightened us very easily. But here we have to mention one point that movie is mostly near to original text and it can leads real point of view of nothingness, comedy of menace and meaninglessness to viewers but then even it shows reality of life.
Only imagination can sometimes hard and make person thinking into another direction and so visuals can leads viewers in certain and particular direction.
Thank you.

Review on 'To the Lighthouse'

This blog is in response to the worksheet on 'To the Lighthouse'. You can find the worksheet on 'To the Lighthouse' here.

1. Virginia Woolf tries to talk about a simple life with a simple wish and simple style. But she makes it pretty complex with her style of writing. Writing style also meters lot in any form of art and that’s why some particular things must be needed and as per my understanding she done justice with what a message she tries to convey through her writing. She drags reader into absurdity with her writing and it is her stream of consciousness. She presented it very well and that’s why I can say that what she wants to say can be said effectively in this way and in this style only.

2. Yes I am fully agree with this statement that, “The novel is both the tribute and critique of Mrs. Ramsay”. At one point writer tries to convey that she is quite good at house hold work and good housewife. But at the same time she portrays Lily Briscoe and it is known as Virginia Woolf herself. So, we can say that may be she is not satisfied with Mrs. Ramsey’s character and she wants to throw light on both the perspective of a lady’s life. One is as a good house keeper and another one is as an individual human being. Mrs. Ramsay’s painting gives us message that she is also a person outside the home, without home.
3. As per my thinking, lighthouse is not stand for only Mrs. Ramsay or Lily Briscoe but it is stand for individuality, it is stand for inner voice. As we know, though Mrs. Ramsay does only household work but she is a strong individual person, who handles everything in every situation. Lily is also a painter and it is itself an achievement. They both did their work very positively. So it is not particularly for any single lady character but it for individuality. It is for strong, personal self confidence, self assurance, faith, belief and support. This lighthouse is stand for their strong inner foundation.
5. “Kunstlerromen” means growth of an artist in simple words. So, we can easily say that ‘To the Light House’ is a Kunstlerromen novel because it shows two artist’s growth. Fist one is inside the novel and another one is outside the novel. Lily Briscoe completes her painting at the end of the novel which was started and left by her. It means that painting grows in her mind. So, Lily Briscoe’s growth as a painter in the novel and Virginia Woolf’s growth as an author outside the novel is clearly visible. And main part is that growth is natural and because of experiences.
7. This novel is an open ended novel that is the first thing. Another thing is if we look at its ‘beginning’ and ‘starting’ then we can conclude that James’ wish was fulfilled at the end of the novel. So it is the major thing which is different in it. And I am agreeing with it that novel is more poignant than movie because movie can restrict our imagination. We can simply feel tone in movie but in novel we cannot. So we have to assume speaker’s tone as per our wish and it makes it more sharpen than movie. What may be reader’s mood is that type of emotions he/she can read from a text.
8. At the end Lily Briscoe completed her painting and after completing it she realizes that she made a mistake. She tries to portray Mrs. Ramsay but she is such a huge personality so she cannot portray her in a painting and that’s what she realizes that she is such a fool that she even try to done such an impossible work. She also repeats Mrs. Ramsay’s words that “Closed doors, open windows” and I feel that she is instruction to herself that she can never become Mrs. Ramsay and she cannot justify with her painting also. So now close door of thinking about her and open windows of understanding that she has to believe in herself.

Review on 'Waiting for Godot'

This blog is in response to the worksheet on 'Waiting for Godot'.
You can find the worksheet on 'Waiting for Godot' here.

I was very confuse about this play from very beginning. But one thing I mainly mention that this play is about nothingness and nothingness is something is the main thing in this play. It is known as absurdity. Existentialism means to do what you want to do, what mentioned in that video that "if you want to throw out Nietzsche then you can throw him out it is Existentialism. "
But this movie helps us to understand play, plot and structure. It is quit monotonous. Here in this image we can see that two person are standing and they are just standing only. They are even doing NOTHING. So here idea of nothingness emerges. They are in hat and they are even not well-dressed. They are just going on talking and talking and talking and doing what?? Just waiting for any person named Godot. Here we can compare this idea with that idea that a person born on the earth and after that person died and in between what he/she doing is just some activities to make oneself busy. So they are also doing the same. They are talking nonsense in sense of waiting for somebody who is not even known to them. Even we also don't know about death then even we are waiting for our death in every single moment of our like. So this is just 'Waiting for Godot'.
Thank you..

Review on CB's 'One Night @ the Call-Center'

This blog is in response to the worksheet on 'One Night @ the Call Center'. You can find worksheet  on 'One Night @ the Call Center'

At very first moment this novel is just like a simple story with common characters which are just like us or our neighbors. Because they are very simple and very common in nature and their problems are also very ordinary problems like casting couch, family problems, money problems, crisis in job, Boss is not good at job, etc. So Is just like our story or our friends and neighbors’ story. But which thing makes this story uncommon is Chetan Bhagat’s narrative style. It means use of prolog and epilog. These two parts are just like magical brush which changes our perspective towards story and put us in situation of thinking that this thing really happens or it was just a dream sequence of narrator. One thing was portray in very common style that now Indians are growing, they are getting white and English people’s job in India but this thing make them little bit unconfident or just like slave that they have to use British accent and must be uses that language only then and then they can get job in Call Centers and they are forced to hide their identity just because of Call Center Job. So at some extent Identity Crisis also plays vital role in this novel. This is very simple but then even thoughtful and touchy novel by CB. His writing is common in style and thoughts but I think that is What Young India Want and Read that’s why he is that much popular among Young India and  his books are Best Sellers. Thank you.

Review on 'The Da Vinci Code'

This blog is in response to the worksheet on 'The Da Vinci Code'. You can find the worksheet on  'The Da Vinci Code' here.

As per my thinking Brown said that his book is not anti-religion and I totally agree with him. Religion is one type of faith of a person and Brown tries to give answer of that faith with the help of such theories and even we cannot blame Brown for this. He wrote what he thinks with the help of some books and some paintings. So as we use to believe that ‘Literature is cope of copy’, same things happen here. He analyses some books and painting by Leonardo Da Vinci and after that he just created a fiction story based on that stuff and even it is define as fiction work so I don’t think that it is that much big issue that this book can brakes faith and trust on religion. Here I just want to give reference of movie OMG.  In this movie, that Guru said in last dialogue that these people are blind in faith and trust and you cannot apart them with Mandirs, Maths, and Ashrams for more days. So people use to have blind faith on religion and so they never believe in such conspiracy theory and they use to think that this is some kind of SHADYANTRA against God or some Religious People and etc. So this is my thinking on Novel 'The Da Vici Code'.Thank you.
